NOW YOU KNOW Cyber Wellness Competition 2012



 Google and Media Development Authority of Singapore are proud to invite schools to participate in the NOW YOU KNOW Cyber Wellness video-making competition. This competition encourages peer education around good online practices. Would like to generate awareness around five themes:
  • how to discern information
  • Online etiquette
  • Personal data protection
  • Safety from cyber bullying
  • Cyber security
Competition Guidelines
  • This competition is open to students aged 13 –19.
  • You will need to form a team consisting of 2 – 4 other students to be able to qualify.
  • Videos should not be longer than 5 minutes on any theme related to good online practices.
  • The competition will run between 6 August 2012 – 30 September 2012.
  • All videos must be submitted by 30 September 2012, 11:59 pm, Singapore time through the competition website. 
  • Schools and students may send multiple entries for the contest.
  • Videos will be judged on their originality, creativity and effectiveness in communicating Cyber Wellness.
The video could be a cartoon animation, reality show, dramatic fiction, or documentary! It’s up to you to decide which creative method you would like to use to educate your viewers about Cyber Wellness.Viewers and teams may also participate in a PUBLIC VOTE for their favorite videos on 1 October, 2012. 

GRAND PRIZE 
All expenses paid trip to visit Google's headquarters in Mountain View, California for 4 days, 3 nights.

1ST RUNNER UP PRIZE 

Brand new Android smart phones for each team member.

2ND RUNNER UP PRIZE 

An afternoon at Google Singapore. Have lunch in the Goopitiam, get a free massage, and try to beat Googlers at video games. (Winners for this prize will be decided by PUBLIC VOTE)

All 3 teams will also win a FREE Google Apps for Education Training Workshop for their schools.

MOE is conducting a survey to find out how you have used computer for school work. This survey is administered by the National Institute of Education, and SST is one of the 110 schools in Singapore selected to participate in this survey.

All you need to do is to respond according to your own experiences.
It will take less than 10 minutes to complete the survey.

Dear Students,

Please be informed that SST NE Committee in collaboration with the Malay Language Unit will be setting up booths at the canteen, in commemorating the festive season of Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

These booths include information on the Significance of Ramadhan and the joyful season of Aidilfitri. The Sec 2 Malay students will be attending to the booths and to your queries. You are cordially invited to drop by and share the joy of this festive season with us during recess.

The booths will be placed at the canteen from 22 August to 24 August.

We will be organising a visit to Barclays.

Agenda: Presentations and Q&A from an IT director and an HR representative Barclays Very Own Trading Floor: Watch the hustle and bustle of the finance world unfold in your visit as you will be visiting Barclays trading floor * A trading floor where dealers exchange or trade in stocks or other securities.

One-way transport will be arranged for students to travel from the school to the event venue.
Students will be dismissed from event venue.

* Priority will be given to ICT TDP students.

Important Note:
It is your responsibility to ensure that your participation does not affect your involvement in other school-related event or programmes such as TDP, Support Programme, Supervised Study, Competitions and CCA.
No excuse slip will be given to your teachers in-charge of lessons, CCA or any other school-related event that takes place at the same time.

Dear Students

Attention all Sec 2 and Sec 3 students!!!

If you are interested in the planetary/earth sciences, SST is arranging a FREE trip for you to visit the NASA Hyperwall exhibition at Resorts World Sentosa!

What
1) We will visit NASA Hyperwall and interact with NASA Scientists at the booths. Rare opportunity to find out more about the work of NASA from them directly!
2) Attend a public lecture "The End of the Pacific? Effects of Sea-Level Rise on Pacific Island Livelihoods" by Patrict Nunn. This lecture will expose us to the perils of sea-level rise - and we can draw parallels from the Pacific Islands and ask ourselves if Singapore should start worrying as well? Those who intend to go on GCP Humanities Trip to Hawaii are strongly encouraged to attend this talk!

(To note : Wednesday will be used as a 'buffer' for absentees and students with other commitments.)

The EL teachers will inform their individual classes regarding the specific timings and dates accordingly.
