NUS Geography Challenge 2012 - Round 2

Congratulations to the following students for completing Round 2 of the NUS Geography Challenge 2012!

In this second round, they had to create a 5-minute video clip to market Marina Bay to foreign students and the results of this activity will take up 40% of the total score. Needless to say, part of this score depends on the number of votes and we would like to seek your support to vote for them by clicking on the attached link. Kindly note that you will be required to 'LIKE' the Marina Bay page before you can vote.

The team will proceed to Round 3 (Geo-Trail) on 31 March 2012 where they will be dashing across the island to get into the Grand Finals. We wish them all the best and remember to spread the word to your family and friends to vote for them!

POSB "My Turn to Save" Contest 2012

Dear Students,

In conjunction with Total Defence Day, POSB is organising an inter-school “My Turn To Save” Contest 2012 from 15 February to 13 April 2012.

All you need to do is build an iconic Singapore symbol you want to protect using recycled materials (plastics bottles, old boxes, drink cans, etc), and you could win S$1,000 POPULAR Book Vouchers for your school! There are 2 categories for Primary and Secondary schools.

Kindly approach teachers on your own, if you are keen to take part in this competition.

(20120310) Four Days in February: Adam Park the Last Battle by Singapore Heritage and National Heritage Board with support from NLB

Visit the “Battle for Adam Park” exhibition and find out about Adam Park and its role as one of Britain’s defence positions in Singapore during World War II. The exhibition features a physical recreation of the topography of Adam Park and showcases the research findings and artefacts uncovered by the Singapore Heritage Society during its archaeological excavation of Adam Park. The exhibition is from Wednesday, 8 February 2012 to Sunday, 24 June 2012.

(20120310) National Stamps Collecting Competition for Secondary Schools by Singapore Philatelic Museum

The objective of the competition is to provide students with the opportunity to use stamps and philatelic materials to explore a variety of topics such as nature, science and culture. The competition will also help students gain knowledge about Singapore and other countries and acquire learning and thinking skills through activities involving language development, writing, research, organisation and creativity.

The competition will be held from Friday, 31 August 2012 to Sunday, 2 September 2012.

The Singapore History Gallery allows you to explore the struggles that early settlers had to overcome by taking you through the drama of major national events as well as the personal stories of individuals. You can select your own ‘path’ into the past. The Engaging China Seminar with Business China Singapore by Pioneer Junior College

Dear Students,

Pioneer Junior College (PJC) will be co-organising The Engaging China Seminar with Business China Singapore on 31 March 2012(Saturday). This year's theme is entitled"China-Quotient Student Forum- Grooming a Generation of Bicultural Singaporeans".

This Seminar targets mainly at pre-university and secondary school students who are interested in contemporary China, to motivate them to keep pace with its rapid developments. More importantly, it also aims to sow how Singaporeans should capitalise on our median location, multilingual and multicultural populace, to effectively maneuver between the East and West.

Level 2 GCP Service Learning trip to Phnom Penh, Cambodia (May 2012)

Dear students,

Kindly obtain an application form from outside the staff room if you are interested to participate in the level 2 GCP service learning trip to Phnom Penh, Cambodia in May 2012.

This trip is opened to students who have some prior experience in community service and can take on a certain level of physical and emotional challenges. Only Sec 2 and 3 students may apply. No subsidy will be given for this level 2 trip and participants will have to bear the full cost of the trip which is around $1500 (or less).

Application forms are to be submitted latest by Thursday, 8 Mar to Mr Seth Tan's pigeon hole outside the staff room.
